March 23 2025 Walleye Detroit River

March 24, 2025 //  by Kevin Johnston

Fished the Detroit River around Wyandotte using jigs. We launched from Wyandotte Municipal boat ramp at 7:00 AM and started at red bouy 22 downstream from Mud Island. Lots of missed fish and two landed the first 30 minutes of fishing. We expanded our drift a bit, starting at the Wyandotte Channel North Junction Lighted Buoy upstream of Mud island down to buoy 20 and caught more walleye. We ran over to the Candlestick (Fighting Island North Light) and watched 100+ boats with one walleye netted while we ate lunch. Back to the Lighted Buoy and caught a few more. The afternoon wind was picking up and we headed to the Trenton Channel and picked up four more fish for a total of 9 walleye. The last walleye was taken while I was cleaning the other eight. 1 oz jigs with blue/silver glitter or brown plastics catching most of the fish.

Jaden with two Trenton Channel walleye!
Nice catch of walleye!
Slow but steady area from Mud Island down to the Waterfront Cafe.
Afternoon hotspot from Portofino down to the golf course.
