Deer Season Opening Day Walleye – Detroit River

November 16, 2024 //  by Kevin Johnston

11/15/24
Fished the upper Detroit River upstream of Belle Isle to the River headwaters near Peche Island. Stayed in US waters as it had a thin line of clearer water. The American and Canadian shoreline was muddy. Started at the comorant tower to the white light house at Mariner Park. Bite was best from 3:30 pm (when we started) until 5:00 PM. Grey or white Fin-S plastics; nothing on black Wyandotte worm. Fished until 9 PM and caught a drum and catfish in the dark. Catfish came in on a drop shot, hook 6″ from weight baited with a minnow. The catfish was SHALLOW water, 7′ across from Peche Island.

Two of the three walleye caught late afternoon jigging.
3 walleye all caught on light colored jigs.
King cat!
Big drum caught on a jig.
