April Walleye on the Detroit River

April 7, 2025 //  by Kevin Johnston

4/6/25

Fished the Detroit River near Wyandotte Mi looking for walleye. Started at 6:00 AM and fished around Mud Island without a tap. Moved to the shipping channel between Fighting Island and Grass Island and caught six walleye. Bite wasn’t crazy, rather a slow and steady grind. We moved to the Trenton Channel and fished along the golf course and caught nothing. Fished the East side of Grosse Ille without success; both stretches were muddy. Stopped off at BASF plant and caught fish. The last walleye came in off the Waterfront Cafe. Best colors were brown in the morning, white in the afternoon. Client put most of the fish in the box; a perfect day!

nice male walleye off BASF in Wyandotte MI.
