Summertime Down River Fishing

August 31, 2025 //  by Kevin Johnston

8/31/25

Fished the lower part of the Detroit River on a perfect late summer day. Pounded shoreline around Hickory Island / Airport Bay and caught a few small and largemouth bass drop shotting a pink plastic bait. Fished Lost Lake just off Crystal bay and had a rip retrieving a spinner bait. Didn’t see what it was though. Fished the upstream tip of Boblo Island – nothing. Missed a large pike or small musky off Sugar Island. No fish found within the Dunbar and Sullivan gravel pit / abandoned barges. Vertical jigged the headwaters of the Livingston Channel and caught two small mouth but no walleye. Fishing was slow for me but I enjoyed seeing deer, mink and hawks.
